Happy new year!

3 min read
I hope you all had a great christmas and a wonderful end of the year. May 2015 become a wonderful year full of great things and happiness Star! St. Patricks Day! .

Now for some announcements:
15 february I will be on Tsunacon selling my art prints, stickers, and some handmade cute/J-fashion goodies!
Tsunacon is a big one-day convention/event with of course things related to Japan and anime.

However, until further notice I won't be having a table -like that-  at other events anymore coming year.
Why? 2014 was a nice year of trying it out, selling my art at several events. It was fun to do for sure!
But, except for one of them, they weren't really successful enough for me to go on with it.
One of the reasons is that the thing that sells the best is still fanart and even when I do like to make fanart sometimes, I rather have people buy my original art and I feel that a professional illustrator shouldn't be selling fanart that much.
Also, last year I made less personal art than the year before and I feel that that's not a good thing. I put less time in the things like creating pieces to show to publishers/future clients. Actually because I had some bigger illustration jobs (with lots of smaller illustrations to be made) and that combined with preparing for the conventions/fairs, I got pretty tired and had less time and energy for making personal pieces and miss it. So it was nice to do this year, to try it, but I don't think it's something I should be doing. Of course I'm still selling things online, like at Society6 and RedBubble and my own Storenvy shop.

BUT I did some new things in 2014 that I plan to expand and continue with. That is creating fabric/print designs. I didn't upload them all here on DeviantArt, but I've been busy creating and designing dresses. I've had some really enthusiastic reactions and I hope to start selling dresses coming year..next to that I already offer commissions for people to have their own print designed and made by me (see this page on my website). I'm not expecting to make big money out of it, but it's really great to do so why not.

Wish you all the best for the new year I am a dummy!
Cheers,
Petra

Hi everyone!

At the moment I'm busy with an illustration job and after that I will be busy with some other things. Amongst them are preparing for some coming fairs and conventions (in the Netherlands)! So here's an update of the list of where I'll be the coming months:

MGC Experience , November 1, Utrecht, mgcexperience.com
This is a small one-day event, and I will also bring some anime-stuff with me to MGC of course!

Other events I'll attend (not as an artist):

- Cosplay Gala, October 11, Meppel, gala.baggeranime.nl
As an active member of B.A.G.G.E.R., the anime club of the north of the Netherlands, I help organizing this event but I'm also planning to cosplay and hopefully I can join the contest as well (which would be a first ^^).

Lately I've been getting more into Japanese street fashion styles and cosplay.
Mainly Elegant Gothic/ Classic and Sweet Lolita. I've known about it since a while, because I have a good friend who wore it for some time, that was about 3 years ago I think. But I didn't have the time nor money nor a sewing machine to make some myself but I do now. Well I still don't have a lot of money but just a tiny bit and I wanted to try it out after I saw another friend wearing it at her birthday (it was soooo cute). So I've been sewing things the last months and I've started a blog about my creations and stuff here
Next to that I've finished a border print and ordered fabric with it, which I hope will arrive soon so I can create a dress designed by myself. And I'm planning to create even more prints, because it is a lot of fun!
Anyway, I sort of am climbing back into the anime-scene here, we've attended animecon which was cool and I've already booked a (cheaper) apartment for next year so hope to attend the full 3 days then X3 yay.
I know, even when I'm 26, I still like anime a lot and so it makes me happy I can do things with other people and make new friends that kinda love the same things <3 it's really great!

Hey all!
I just wanted to keep you guy up to date, because the coming month I'll be attending some fairs as a 'dealer' or at least as an artist showing my art, behind the table! Which is awesome, this is the first time I will be selling stuff (instead of just showing).
So where can you find me? Unfortunately only in the Netherlands, because I just don't have the money to visit FACTS or SPIEL. BUT I will be selling things as well as my own new shop I am a dummy! : petra.storenvy.com New  But for those who like fairs and markets, go check these out:
  • Noorderlijke Stripmanifestatie (Northern Comic and illustration Fair), May 17 & 18, Drachten, www.stripmanifestatie.nl/
This will be the first time that something this big will be in the north of the Netherlands, which is awesome because usually they are way south or west. There also will be a range of kinds of comics & manga and also new and fresh talent instead of only the usual known people, including illustrators as well. I'll be showing my manga-style work there, as well as stickers, buttons, postcards and some prints :)

  • Holy Stitch Art and Crafty fair, May 24 & 25, Blokhuispoort Leeuwarden , www.holystitch.nl
This is a two day market where a lot of online cute & crafts shops will present themselves in old jail cells. I was invited by Star Sprinkles (a shop with really cute, yummy and handmade stuff Love !) to decorate a wall of one cell with my artworks, which is supercool (and really sweet of the miss from Star Sprinkles omfg  Star! ) ! Visiting the fair/market is free!

  • Imaginarium Festival (Fantasy festival), August 23, Vijversburg (Friesland), www.imaginarium-festival.nl
This is still some months away but I'll be showing my art here as well, and I will still have some time to create some new things.
It's a relatively new festival, also in the north of the Netherlands and a more broad fantasy themed so you can expect a lot of things from renaissance enactments to cute fantasy elfs I think :).
Next to that I'll also be on MGC Experience in Utrecht in November, but that's so far away I'm not even thinking about it yet.
Will you go to one of these events? Let me know and come say hi! Because the reason I'm going 'out there' is because I want to meet more people, instead of just being on the internet, hopefully that will also help a bit with marketing my illustration work because it hasn't been going any better moneywise really, to be honest, but I keep myself busy as you can know via my Tumblr or Facebook
Anyway, hope to see you there Hi! .

Hey all, I just wanted to let you know: besides on dA I also sell prints via Society6 and Redbubble.
Not only prints, but also bags, pillows, shirts, greeting cards, phone and tablet cases and more!
So take a look at Redbubble or Society6 if you feel like spending money on beautiful art.

I also recently wrote a newsletter about this and more, you can read it here!

Furthermore: I wish you all happy holidays and a great new year :), cheers!
